Dobot.us was created by In-Position Technologies to promote robotics education for students of all ages. We are a robotics company whose charter is to provide the products, training, and engineering resources necessary to enable manufacturers to automate their processes. We are passionate about robotics and robotics education.
Our work brings us into contact with business of all types and sizes, and one common thread we see in all businesses is an increasing difficulty in hiring employees trained to operate complex machinery, especially robots. At the same time, demographic shifts in our population is creating a surplus of skilled labor resources, unfortunately a labor pool not trained with the skills manufacturers need. This shortage of skilled workers caused us to ask ourselves what we could do to make a difference, so in 2014 we began partnering with colleges and other educational institutions to introduce students to modern robotics, but it wasn’t until early 2017 that we found the answer to our quest: the Dobot Magician.
The Dobot Magician is different than any other educational robot because it programs precisely how modern manufacturing robots are programmed today. Most educational robot programs focus on building or making robots, but less than one tenth of one percent of our population will ever find careers making robots, while nearly everyone will interact with robots. The Dobot Magician is the first educational robot that teaches students how to “Do” things with robots. Instead of using limited school time to build robots, the Dobot Magician allows students on their first day of class to begin “doing” robotics
We believe robots are for everyone, and while it is true that in the distant future robots will be in our homes, the reality is that today, robots are in our workplaces, and so it is important we understand what they are, and what they are not. To this end we have made three curriculums available for free download. Unit 1 is designed to show educators how robotics education can be integrated with core science topics, so K-5 educators can prepare students for living with robots. Unit 2 is a practical first step for those desiring to to teach students how to use today’s robot. It is designed for grades 6-12. Lastly, we are excited to offer an Introduction to Robotics developed by master STEM teacher Chris Hurd. This curriculum is suitable for senior level high school through first level college studies. In-Position Technologies and www.dobot.us is not the manufacturer of the Dobot Magician. However, we were the fist in the United States to see the importance of this game changing product series. It not only provides a platform to educate students in three engineering fields simultaneously, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science, it allows students of all ages to use a modern robot interface at about 5% of the cost of an industrial robot.
