Dobot Projects Simulates Actual Industrial Robot Cell!

A few weeks back one of our Dobot Magician power users, Chris Hurd, had his class setup two Dobot Magicians to communicate with each other. The students connected the two robots via digital inputs and outputs to notify each other when a shared space was clear for movement. You can watch his complete setup and description here: www.chrisandjimcim.com

At In-Position Technologies, we have one foot in the educational world and the other firmly in industrial automation. Little did Chris Hurd know, the day he sent this to me I was working on designing an industrial robot cell to do essentially the exact same application that he had just setup! I designed and simulated a work cell where two Universal Robots will be sharing the same work space and will need to communicate to each other when they are in the shared space to make sure they do not run into each other. How will they be doing that? With digital inputs and outputs, just like Chris Hurd’s classroom activity. In this video: (video embedded into the post) you can see the comparison between my simulation and Chris Hurd’s classroom activity.

As an automation engineer I am continually amazed at the power the Dobot Magician has to prepare students to work in STEM related fields. When you learn how to use the Dobot it directly correlates to valuable career skills.

What are you doing with your Dobot Magician? We would love to see more! If you have a classroom activity you would like to be featured on our blog email me at christianh@iptech1.com
