Kirby Harder, Head of the Engineering Dept. at Copley High School, has shared another classroom update. Now 9 days into the school year, Kirby challenged his students to get the Dobot Magicians to work with the conveyor and pick and place colored blocks.
I am still setting up my classroom, my lab tables came in but my lap top computer parts have not. This did not stop 2 of my engineering students. Jasmine and Hanna saw the robots that Daniel was working with and wanted to get in on the action. I let them know that I had several other robots available but they would have to set them up and get them running on their own (of course with a bit of guidance/troubleshooting). Jasmine and Hanna were all in, without any help and armed with the instruction manual, Jasmine and Hanna had 1 of the Dobots up and running in 2 class periods. The lady engineers first used the robot to make drawings of their favorite logos then proceeded to laser engrave those same photos on a piece of cherry.
I let them know that they were doing a great job and wondered if they wanted a bit bigger challenge….they accepted. The challenge…….get the robots to work with the conveyor and pick and place colored blocks.
Copley High School in Copley, OH was chosen among other qualified applicants as the winner of the In-Position Technologies’ RENi Grant for Dobot Magician Robot Labs. Make sure to stay tuned for upcoming updates from inside the Copley engineering classroom!
